Italy Deploys Soldiers to Secure Cities against Violent Crime
August 5, 2008
Italy deploys soldiers across the country to fight off crime. Of course this is a useless step. First of all soldiers don’t know how to police. They don’t know how to interact with the civilians and to control and identify risks. They can’t do a thing except standing around and intimidate law obeying citizens.
But of course this is just a popularity stunt. The Italian
dictator erm Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi won the elections in April with a promise to crack down on illegal immigrants and crime. Of course such tasks aren’t easy but sending out your soldiers is and it is a pretty good popularity stunt. Most people feel safer and he “has done something!”
As a side node: The History of the Italian Army is not really full of glory.
